Flowering from June to the first frosts, this addition to our range of dahlias is a real stand-out specimen which will create a truly unusual splash of colour in borders and containers. The densely packed petals are a very pale pink when viewed from above, but their undersides are a rich ‘crème de cassis’ colour – hence the name. The smaller petals at the centre of the flower which have yet to unfurl, give the appearance of a darker-coloured centre, although it’s simply the colour of the undersides of the petals that gives this impression. Looking almost like a water lily, Dahlia ‘Crème de Cassis’ makes a fabulous cut flower, so try putting some in a vase or giving a bunch to a friend? Height: 90cm (35″). Spread: 45cm (18″).
Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6″) and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.
