‘Little Gem’ is a stunning Magnolia, that is ready to flower from August to October. It generates an abundance of large, white blooms, that cloak a compact, yet narrow growing habit of glossy green foliage. The perfect perennial for making a statement and for adding freshness, incorporate into patio pots, smaller sized gardens, woodland and scented themed landscapes. Happy to develop in semi shade, watch it flourish to a height of 8m, along with a spread of 4m. A grandiflora for the smaller garden, Magnolia grandiflora ‘Little Gem’ is a petite replica of those magnificent Magnolia grandifloras growing up the walls of stately homes that you may have admired with envy. Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.
