‘Summer Heat’ is a stunning Alstroemeria, that is ready to flower from June until November. It generates an abundance of hot red blooms, that each feature a speckled, golden throat. They are borne upon a bushy growing habit of deep green foliage and are easy to grow all year round. Perfect for planting within borders, cut flower and cottage themed landscapes, you can count on this vibrant Peruvian Lily to add a burst of colour to your outdoor space this season. Position in semi shade and watch it thrive to a height and spread of 60cm. The brilliant red flowers of Alstroemeria ‘Summer Heat’ add a fiery flash to borders and pots for months Pot up Alstroemeria plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors and all risk of frost has passed. Alstroemerias perform best in a sunny, sheltered spot in a rich, free-draining soil that contains lots of organic matter. A weekly feed with a high-potassium feed such as tomato food will encourage prolific blooming, while removing each stem after the flowers have faded will prolong the flowering season. Tall stems may benefit from staking or support to prevent wind damage. Will survive temperatures down to around minus 5c but not much lower. Apply an autumn mulch if in a border, or if in a container, move to a frost-free spot over winter.
