Lavandula angustifolia Havana – English lavenderIdeal for hedges, Lavandula angustifolia Havana has a neat bushy habit and is best grown in full direct sunlight. Its plants are coated with popping purple flowers that appear from June until August, adding some garden interest and a splash of colour.Throughout the wet months ‘Havana’ does not disappoint, it pulls through looking better than most traditional cultivars and still puts on a showy display of silvery-green foliage. This English lavender grows compactly and spreads to around 50cm along with a matching height of 50cm also. Lavender ‘Havana’ is a recently introduced cultivar that is notable for tolerating wet conditions better than traditional ones. Grow English lavender plants in free draining soil. Choose a position in full sun. Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing English lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.
