Dahlia ‘Bishop of Llandaff’ is a classic, striking variety that combines elegance and drama with its bold deep red flowers and dark foliage. This half-hardy perennial is known for its rich, velvety blooms and eye-catching contrast against its almost black, burgundy-coloured leaves. It’s a perfect choice for adding a touch of sophistication and vibrant colour to your garden.
Whether planted in a border, container, or cut-flower garden, it provides continuous colour from summer through fall, making it a must-have for gardeners seeking elegant beauty with minimal effort. As with all dahlia plants, tubers need to be dug up and overwintered in a dry, frost-free place. Height: 1.2m (4′). Spread:60cm (24″). Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6″) and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.
