Phlox ‘Coral Flame’ is a real eye-catcher, with large clusters of vibrant coral red flowers with a magenta eye billowing from sturdy, compact plants. The Flame series of phlox have all the best attributes of traditional tall varieties, condensed into a dwarf bushy form which is perfect for small gardens and with improved resistance to mildew. Its petite stature fits perfectly into the front or middle of borders, and it can even be grown in containers where its fragrant flowers can be enjoyed from midsummer onwards. For a bold contrast, partner it with flowers in violet-blue shades. Height: 40cm (16”). Spread: 30cm (12”).
Phlox are a traditional mainstay of cottage-garden borders for good reason. Flowering from mid to late summer when borders are in full swing, they are valued for their ability to bring soft, pillowy clouds of colour into any scheme, forming lovely backdrops to other plants with more complicated shapes. They don’t demand full sun; in fact they positively enjoy part shade and will flower for even longer in shadier spots. They are an excellent candidate for heavier soils which other perennials won’t tolerate, enjoying moist, fertile conditions.
