‘XXL’ is a wonderful Rhododendron that flowers from April to June. It boasts masses of bright pink and white bicoloured blooms, that are trumpet shaped and flamboyant. They cloak its vigorous growing habit of deep green foliage and turn heads wherever placed. Great for having as a showy specimen plant, this vibrant hardy shrub will look fabulous in a patio pot, tropical or woodland gardening scheme. It will enjoy semi shade to progress and will develop in height and spread to 175cm. The result of over 10 years of specialist breeding, this exciting new hybrid rhododendron boasts stunning and rare bicolored flowers, each white at the centre with a vivid hot pink frilly edging. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
