Redcurrant ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ is a high-yielding variety renowned for producing large, sweet berries with a delightful, juicy texture. Awarded the RHS AGM for its reliability, this variety offers a generous harvest from early summer, perfect for enjoying fresh or making jams, jellies, and desserts. Its easy-care, upright growth habit makes it an excellent choice for adding structure to garden beds, borders, or allotments. This versatile shrub thrives in kitchen gardens, providing a steady supply of fruit throughout the season. Height: 1.2m (4’) Spread: 1.2m (4’) Redcurrants prefer a position in full sun but will tolerate semi shade. Shelter from cold winds and late spring frosts as these conditions may damage the flowers, and reduce the yield of fruit later in the year. Grow redcurrants in rich, moist, well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure into the ground prior to planting. Plant redcurrant bushes between late autumn and spring, at a distance of 1.5m (5′) apart and a depth of 5cm (2″) lower than the soil mark on the stem. Planting redcurrants slightly deep will encourage the production of extra stems from below ground level.
