This elegant Streptocarpus blooms from March until December. It produces an abundance of lilac and custard-coloured flowers, that perch neatly upon a small mound of fresh green foliage. Low maintenance and shade tolerant, your Cape Primrose will enjoy dappled shade to progress and look stunning in a contemporary conservatory or greenhouse. Its exotic looking blooms will add a touch of the tropics to your home and create a cluster of colour. It will develop in height to 20cm, along with a spread of 25cm. Streptocarpus ‘Alexis’ is an exquisite bi-coloured variety with purple upper petals and creamy yellow lower petals, traced with purple veins.

March to September

Place your Streptocarpus in a bright spot in indirect light out of the midday sun. Do not expose to hot, direct sunlight. An east or west-facing windowsill is perfect. About once a week water sparingly when the compost begins to dry out, keeping plants on the dry side. Never leave them to sit in water. Overwatering can be fatal. Feed weekly with a high potash tomato feed which will boost flower production. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. As the plant grows, repot as necessary in spring into a slightly larger pot.

October to February

Move to a south facing windowsill if possible. Keep drier over the winter, only watering occasionally and sparingly when the compost dries out. Don’t feed. Remove any dead leaves and debris to minimise the chance of pests and diseases.
