Tinkerbird Rhododendron is a robust miniature combination with a wonderful smell. Pink buds open in early May to produce sparkling white flowers with a pleasant fragrance. It is truly a triumph in breeding! A breeding breakthrough! Rhododendron ‘Tinkerbird’ is a hardy dwarf hybrid with a fabulous scent. From early May, pink buds open to reveal glistening white flowers with a sweet perfume. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
