‘Kardinal’ is a stunning Hydrangea, that is ready to bloom from July until October. It produces an abundance of bright pink flowers, that contrast wonderfully against its bushy growing habit of fresh green foliage. Superb for filling gaps, growing in woodland, cottage or urban themed landscapes, this fabulous hardy shrub is not one to miss! Keep positioned in dappled shade and watch it thrive to a height and spread of 1.5m. Hydrangea are generally one of the easiest shrubs to grow, but unlike most, this particular variety is very pH sensitive, meaning that it will thrive in any soil you provide, but the colour of the flowers will vary. On alkaline, a compact lacecap with deep red flowers will emerge, whereas given an acidic soil, deep reddish-mauve flowers will take the stage. Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a position in sun or semi-shade, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively, plant Hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in ericaceous compost.
