A vigorous and hardy variety which produces large yields of practically hairless, deliciously sweet Kiwis! Kiwi ‘Issai’ is a simple to grow, self fertile climber with luscious green foliage and clusters of small, wonderfully perfumed, cup-shaped flowers in the summer. The tasty, green, oval-shaped fruits can be picked in September. Perfect for growing up a warm and sunny trellis, pergola or arch, as well as a south-facing wall. Ideal for a smaller garden where there is only room for a single plant.Height: 6m (20′) Spread: 4m (13′). Grow kiwi plants in a sunny position in any fertile, well drained soil. A sheltered position is essential as kiwis are particularly sensitive to adverse weather conditions. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. Plant kiwi vines at a distance of 5.5m (18’) apart, firm in and water well. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate support wires strung between sturdy posts, to train as an espalier.
