‘Grape Ice’ is a beautiful new Muscari, that is ready to bloom from March until June. It produces bundles of delicate plum flowers, that are each subtly topped with icy white florets. Topping a clump forming habit of fresh green foliage, this hardy perennial would be ideal for planting within cottage, alpine and wildlife gardening schemes, as well as using as attractive ground cover. Keep in partial shade and watch it flourish to a height and spread of 20cm. An unusual bi-coloured variety, the base of the flower head is soft, crushed purple, morphing into lime green and finished with a pinnacle of ice white. For the best effect, plant muscari bulbs in large groups. Grape hyacinth plants prefer a sunny or semi-shaded position in moist, well drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4″) and a distance of 5cm (2″) apart.
