Corydalis ‘Blue Heron’ is a stunning perennial known for its delicate, bluish-lavender flowers which appear in early to mid-spring. These blooms have a unique shape, resembling small, tubular spurs that cluster in loose, airy panicles. The flowers stand out against the plant’s fern-like foliage, creating a delicate yet bold visual impact. Its compact size and clump forming habit makes this an easy choice for flower beds, shady borders, or container gardens, where its delicate appearance can shine.
Unlike many other spring bloomers, Corydalis ‘Blue Heron’ thrives in part to full shade, making it an ideal choice for difficult-to-plant areas under trees or shrubs where sunlight is limited. This cultivar’s compact growth and elegant appearance make it suitable for smaller garden spaces or mixed plantings, adding texture and colour without overwhelming the space. It requires minimal care beyond regular watering and occasional pruning. Its deciduous nature means that it will die back in winter, giving you a break from care during the off-season. The flowers of ‘Blue Heron’ are attractive to bees and butterflies, making it a great plant for promoting a healthy garden ecosystem. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
An excellent variety boasting intense gentian blue flowers with an extended flowering season. Pot up Corydalis plants into larger pots and grow them on in frost free conditions until they are well grown. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before transplanting into borders and containers. Grow Corydalis in fertile, humus-rich, well drained soil in a sunny position or in dappled shade. Improve soil conditions by adding plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting.
