‘Alba’ is an elegant Salvia, that is ready to flower from May until October. It produces an abundance of pearlescent lilac blooms, that form upon upright bracts, amongst a low growing mound of furry, wrinkled green leaflets. Perfect for adding into gravel, scented and wildlife themed landscapes, keep positioned in direct sunlight, where it can develop to a height of 90cm, along with a spread of 30cm.
Salvia sclarea var. turkestanica ‘Alba’ is a choice perennial or biennial with impressive flowers over a long period, surviving in all free-draining soils but particularly useful for dry, poor ones.
Grow in full sun in free-draining soil. Water well during establishment phase – plants are drought tolerant once established. A short-lived perennial or biennial, the life of the plant can be extended by removing the spent flower spike before it goes to seed. However, allowing plants to seed will establish a self-sufficient population, with new seedlings coming up each season to replace old plants. After flowering in the autumn, cut down plants leaving just the basal rosette of leaves to over winter.
