Amelanchier is specifically great for hedging, due to its open growth habit that allows it to spread and provide high privacy for your garden. The deciduous tree will open up with bronze foliage, followed by orange and red tones in autumn. Thrives in a sunny border where its colour intensifies, in spring, white blossoms may emerge, tinged with pink blending into the young foliage beneath. Performs best in slightly acidic soil. Also known as Snowy Mespilus. Height: up to 12m (39′). Spread: 8m (13′). Planting Distance: 25cm (10″) (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge). The autumn foliage colours of Amelanchier will be at their best when grown in full sun. Plant into a moist, but well-drained soil, which can be neutral to acidic. Can be grown as a free-standing specimen tree or trained as a hedge.
