‘Ensata’ is a stunning Iris, that is perfect for growing in bogs, damp borders and water gardens. From June until August, it boasts masses of vibrant purple and yellow flower heads, that are borne upon slender green stems, amongst a clump forming habit of fresh green foliage. Undemanding and instantly creating a showy summer display, be sure to keep positioned in semi shade where it will thrive to a height of 90cm, along with a spread of 30cm. Japanese iris plants thrive in moist, acid or neutral soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. These moisture loving iris require a rich, fertile soil which has had plenty of well rotted organic matter added into the soil prior to planting. Avoid submerging iris ensata in ponds and streams as this may cause them to rot. Instead, plant them in moist ground at the water’s edge, or in damp borders and bog gardens with their roots in the shade and their heads in the sun.
