‘Fragrant Springs’ is a gorgeous new Clematis, that is ready to flower from May until July. It produces bundles of four-petalled, baby pink blooms, that smother a climbing growing habit of fresh green foliage. Perfect for planting in large patio pots, it will also sit well in scented and cottage gardening schemes. Much loved for its sprawling form, try hiding unsightly walls and fences with this attractive Old man’s beard! Keep positioned in partial shade and watch it flourish to a height of 12m, along with a spread of 4m. If you are looking for a Clematis that will go the extra mile then Clematis montana ‘Fragrant Springs’ is bound to impress. This vigorous variety is a quick grower that will provide excellent coverage for disguising unattractive outbuildings or ugly fences. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3″) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
