‘Joe’ is a striking Clematis, that blooms from April until June. It generates bundles of large, pure white flowers, that smother its fresh green waxy foliage, upon a dwarf growing habit. Perfect for growing in a patio pot, along a wall or fence, this Old man’s beard will make a dramatic statement wherever placed and will thrive in semi shade. It will develop in height to 2m and will spread to around 50cm. Clematis ‘Joe’ is a spectacularly pretty dwarf clematis bearing such a profusion of flowers from April to May that its fine evergreen foliage is almost completely obscured.
This clematis originates from New Zealand species and requires freely draining soil and shelter from cold winter winds. It will not tolerate waterlogging. Grow in a large container in freely draining compost with added grit/perlite and place crocks in the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage. Give it a warm, sheltered sunny site during the growing season and move into a sheltered spot/greenhouse/conservatory over winter keeping it slightly on the dry side. Routine pruning is not required other than the removal of dead or diseased material.
