‘Alabama Summer’ is a superb new Geum, that is ready to bloom from June until October. It generates bundles of fiery orange flowers, that delicately top a clump forming habit of fresh green foliage. Its semi-double blooms attract lots of attention and add an elegant feel to cut flower, cottage and wildlife themed gardens. Happy to progress in full sun, watch it thrive to a height of 45cm, along with a spread of 40cm. A compact Geum with fiery orange and red blooms borne on wiry stems above neat clumps of bright green foliage. Purple buds open to reveal golden, semi-double flowers with orange and red markings, from early to late summer. Pot up geum plants and grow them on in bright, frost-free conditions until large enough to be transplanted outdoors. Once well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Geums dislike soils which are prone to waterlogging in winter. Plant them in moist, fertile, well drained soil, adding plenty of compost or well rotted manure to amend heavy clay or sandy soils. Choose a position towards the front of the border in full sun.
