Rumex sanguineus is cultivated primarily for its striking foliage, where rich crimson veins trace intricate patterns across each dark green leaf. The large, rosette-shaped leaves grow densely, offering excellent ground cover and providing shelter for wildlife when planted in groups. Known as Wood Dock, this hardy, resilient British native is often found at the edges of woodlands and on roadside verges. Preferring damp soils, it thrives as a marginal plant in wildlife ponds and native garden schemes. Height: 90cm (36″). Spread: 30cm (12″). Planting depth: Zones 1 and 2, 15cm (6″) below the water level. Note: Plant size and spread can vary seasonally, so we list plants by pot size rather than fixed measurements. The height and spread of your plant may differ at the time of delivery depending on the season, so the images provided are for reference only. Grow Rumex in moist, boggy soils or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a maximum depth of up to 15cm (6″) below water level. Choose a position in full sun.
