This incredible Bamboo adds colour, texture and architectural height to any sized outdoor space. Its fresh green, slender leaflets smother its lime-coloured, evergreen canes, that form in neat clumps providing fresh colour and interest throughout those colder months. Easily making a fabulous feature plant, this Phyllostachys is incredibly versatile and makes superb additions to woodlands, excellent privacy screening and fabulous decoration to tropical themed gardens. This hardy perennial is suited to growing in a partially shaded spot, to retain a compact size plant in a patio container and watch it flourish to a height of 5m and spread of 3m. Your Bisset’s Bamboo will add a modern touch to your landscape, provide calming movement and elegant shading. When growing Bisset’s Bamboo in pots, choose a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant, firming well into the new container, then water well and position in full sun or semi shade. Alternatively plant Bamboos directly into borders in any moist, free draining soil. Bamboos dislike poor, dry soils. If your soil is particularly free draining, improve it by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting. Choose a sheltered position that is protected from cold, drying winds. Phyllostachys bissetii spreads via underground rhizomes so is best given space to grow. Alternatively surround the roots with a barrier to restrict the plant’s spread.
