‘Akebono’ is a superb new Tulipa, that is ready to bloom from April until June. It generates an abundance of frothy yellow flowers, that are each edged with a vibrant red and blushed with a rosy pink. They top a clump forming habit of fresh green foliage and are ideal for planting within borders, cut flower and cottage gardening schemes. Happy to progress in partial shade, watch it flourish to a height of 50cm, along with a spread of 15cm. Huge double flowers on strong stems. Slightly wavy, primrose-yellow petals blushed with pink, are etched with fine red margins. Striped sepals deliver a final flourish of contrasting green that completes the picture perfectly. Plant tulip bulbs in late summer or autumn. Tulips will grow well in any moist, well drained soil, except for particularly wet soils. Choose a sunny position that is sheltered from strong winds. When planting tulip bulbs avoid shallow planting as this may reduce the winter cold period that is essential for tulip bulbs to produce flowers in spring. Plant them at a depth of 15cm (6″) and at a distance of 13cm (5″) apart.
