The ramanas rose, rosa rugosa, is a high-performing hedging plant with prickles and thorns that would prevent any would-be intruder. The hedge will be covered in a profusion of humble pink blooms in the spring, giving off a lovely aroma. The blossoms will grow into brilliant red circular fruits, or hips, which are highly appealing to animals. They are also a high source of vitamins A, C, and E when used in jellies or jams. It is indeed a hardy, dependable rose shrub that grows and spreads easily in practically any environment. Supplied as 50-80cm bareroots (20-31″) Height: 150cm (59′). Spread: 150 cm (59′). Planting Distance: 50 cm (20″). Three plants per metre are sufficient for a single line hedge (3 plants per metre for a single line hedge). Plant bareroot roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.
