Rhododendron ‘Robert Seleger’ is a superb hardy shrub that is much adored for its trumpet-shaped, pale purple blooms. They will appear in bundles from April until May and smother a compact growing, dwarf habit of deep green leaflets. A beautiful addition to the front of borders, patio pots and tropical themed landscapes, it will really liven up dull outdoor spaces and remain easy to care for all year round. Happy to develop in semi shade, watch it thrive to a height of 45cm, along with a spread of 120cm. Flowering slightly later than many of the dwarf hybrids, Rhododendron ‘Robert Seleger’ produces a fine display during May. The funnel-shaped flowers are an unusual shade of purple-pink that stands out well against the dark, evergreen foliage. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
