‘Morning Yellow’ is a gorgeous Old man’s beard, that is ready to flower from May until July. It produces masses of semi-double, pure white blooms, that each feature a prominent lime centre. Smothering a rambling, deciduous growing habit of deep green foliage, this vibrant Clematis is perfect for growing in containers for trailing, along walls and fences, scrambling through mature shrubs in borders or in cottage themed landscapes. Position in semi shade and watch it flourish in height to 8m, along with a spread of 3m. Unlike the many pink forms available, Clematis montana ‘Morning Yellow’ brings a fresh twist to the garden with its primrose-yellow blooms that age to apple-white. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3″) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
