Citrus trifoliata is a Japanese Bitter Orange, that is ready to bloom from April to July. A rarely seen tree that produces fresh green foliage and bundles of fruit, they ripen to a pale orange and boast a bitter flavour. Its multi branching habit generates lots of sharp spikes and its cup shaped flowers decorate its ornamental habit. Perfect for growing in an exotic themed, low maintenance or cottage garden and happy to develop in direct sunlight, watch it flourish to a height and spread of 5m! A hardy, deciduous, shrub, or small tree, whose stout branches are heavily armed with very sharp spines. From April to June, the intoxicating scent of the white, cup-shaped flowers is remeniscent of Orange blossom. Occasionally a second flush of blooms are produced during autumn. Grow Citrus trifoliata in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Choose a position with shelter from cold winds. Once established, it will tolerate drier soil conditions.
