‘Versicolor’ is a wonderful Iris, that is perfect for growing in bogs, damp borders and water gardens. From June until August, you will witness masses of purple-white blooms, that are borne upon slender stems, amongst a clump forming habit of fresh green foliage. Happy to develop in semi shade, watch it thrive to a height of 90cm, along with a spread of 30cm. Iris versicolor plants thrive in damp, acid or neutral soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. These moisture loving Iris require a rich, fertile soil which has had plenty of well rotted organic matter added into the soil prior to planting. Grow Iris versicolor in moist, boggy soils or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a maximum depth of up to 15cm (6″) below water level. Choose a position in sun or semi shade.
