‘Luoyang Hong’ is a superb tree peony that flowers from April until June. It generates masses of magenta, upward facing blooms that completely cloak this shrub, each flower measuring up to 25cm in width. Great for adding to scented, wildlife, cut flower and exotic gardening schemes, this Paeonia makes a wonderful display wherever planted in the garden and will create a beautiful focal point. Plant in partial shade and watch it develop to a height and spread of 150cm. Grow tree peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position that is sheltered from cold winds and shaded from strong early morning sunlight. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant tree peonies so that the grafted union sits at least 10cm (4″) below the soil surface. Shallow planting may hinder establishment and delay flowering.
