‘Pinot Gris’ is a fabulous Vitis, that is ready to harvest from September to October. It generates high yields of white fleshed fruit, that are plump in appearance, with a pale grey-pink skin. Emitting a delicious, sweet flavour, this Grape is ideal for eating in desserts and for making wine! Be sure to grow in a kitchen garden or greenhouse and watch it cascade along a trellis, wall or fence. Position in direct sunlight and watch it develop in height to 1.8m, along with a spread of 1.5m. A mutation of the red-wine grape ‘Pinot Noir’, the skin of Grape ‘Pinot Gris’ is a blue/grey to bronze/rose colour but the flesh is pale green and it is classed as a white grape variety. When growing grape vines choose a sunny position in any well drained soil. A south facing position against a wall is ideal. Grape vines require sturdy support for their twining stems. Before planting, prepare a framework of wires stretched horizontally between two sturdy 1.8m (6′) posts or attached to a warm wall. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant grape vines against the wire supports, allowing a distance of 2m (6′) between plants. After planting, reduce the newly planted grape vine back to height of the lowest support wire, and cut back any side shoots to one bud, before tying the main stem in to the supporting wires.
