Hostas are easily identified by their large, rounded leaves that form dense clumps of vibrant foliage. As they mature, they spread to provide excellent ground cover, helping to suppress weeds. These hardy perennials flourish in lightly shaded areas of the garden, whether in borders or patio containers. The crinkled blue-green leaves, bordered by golden edges, create a striking contrast that adds visual interest. Height: 30cm (12″) Spread: 75cm (29″) Grow Hosta plants in sun or dappled shade, on rich, moist, well-drained soil. Plants can grow well in a sunny border, but will need to be kept reliably moist. Plants may perform better on slightly acid soils. Before planting, work some fresh compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Alternatively plant Hostas in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
