Scabious Blue JeansScabious Blue Jeans flowers from June until September, it generates masses of unusual circular blooms in a shade of indigo blue amongst tall wiry stems and full green foliage. More commonly known as the Pincushion flower, this Scabious is easy to care for, requires full sun to develop and is virtually maintenance free.Scabiosa atropurpurea makes fabulous cut flowers, its ruffled blue booms would sit well in a cut flower garden and will create a beautiful display indoors. Scabious Blue Jeans is a magnet for bees and butterflies, its nectar rich flowers provide a vital food source for pollinating insects. Pot up plants using free-draining compost, and grow scabious on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors. Choose a sunny position on fertile, well drained, neutral to alkaline soil that is not excessively wet in winter.
