Blueberry Jersey is a late-flowering variety, making it particularly suited for cooler gardens where early spring frosts may damage blossoms. This classic, reliable variety is known for its high yield of medium-sized berries, typically harvested from late July through August. Its mid-to-late season fruiting time makes it an excellent companion for earlier-bearing blueberries, extending the harvest well into the summer. The plant grows into a tall, upright deciduous shrub, offering not only a bounty of delicious berries but also a striking ornamental presence. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, blueberries are a healthy addition to any garden and shine in recipes like pies, muffins, and jams. These resilient shrubs thrive in acidic soils, making them perfect for planting in ericaceous compost, whether in garden beds or large patio containers. In spring, the plant produces an abundance of fragrant white flowers, which give way to vibrant red foliage in autumn. While Blueberry Jersey is self-fertile, planting it alongside another blueberry will enhance pollination and yield. Mature height: 1.8m (6ft), spread: 1.5m (5ft). Time to optimal harvest: 28-32 months (16-20 months for 3L potted plant). Blueberry ‘Jersey’ is late flowering and so especially well-suited to colder gardens where early flowers can get cut down by frost. Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.
