‘The President’ is a striking Clematis that bears showy, purple blooms that feature silver undersides. Its attractive green foliage compliments it perfectly, whilst growing fast and enjoying sprawling along walls and fences. This exciting perennial will free flower from June until November, it is much loved for its intense flower power and really makes a statement wherever placed. Your Clematis would be ideal for adding to a pretty patio area or cottage garden, it enjoys partial sun to develop and will grow in height to 3m, along with a spread of 1m. ‘The President’ looks fabulous when twirling along an obelisk or tumbling through other mature hedges and shrubs, it makes a great accent plant and really creates an attractive feature in any sized outdoor space. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3″) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
