Crataegus grignonensis is a popular small tree, valued for its stunning spring blossom and long-lasting decorative fruits. Ideally suited to being grown as a specimen plant, it provides multiple seasons of interest and plenty of value for wildlife.

Crataegus grignonensis forms a small, vase-shaped tree with a spreading crown of shiny, dark green, leathery lobed leaves with pale undersides. Leaves remain on the tree for a long time, often until December and in mild winters, it is semi-evergreen. Unlike the common hawthorn, the branches are almost thornless. In May and June, it is smothered in spring blossom, consisting of umbels of small white flowers which fade to pink. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. The blossom is followed by glossy, round red fruits which provide interest well into the colder months, persisting until the first hard frost. The fruits attractive plenty of birds and other wildlife. This robust and versatile tree is extremely hardy, pollution-tolerant and drought-tolerant once established. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Maximum height: 6m (19.6ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).
