Honeysuckle ‘Belgica’ boasts beautiful white blooms which will slowly turn yellow, striped with pink-red. Early Dutch Honeysuckle flowers at the beginning of summer but will often have a second flush in autumn, followed by red berries. Honeysuckle is a much-loved choice of climber favoured for its heavenly fragranced blooms. Perfect for covering walls and fences due to its vigorous nature, as well as growing amongst shrubs and trees.Height: up to 7m (22′) Spread: 1m (39″).Culinary note: The parboiled leaves are used as a vegetable and the flowers can be sucked for their sweet nectar, used as a vegetable or made into a syrup and pudding. A tea can also be made from the leaves, buds and flowers. Plant honeysuckle against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free draining soil. Poor soils can be improved by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in sun or semi-shade. When growing honeysuckle in patio containers, use soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
