Aloe isn’t just for the windowsill, as ‘Safari Sunrise’ proves so well, producing extremely well in UK climate outside as a patio plant. It’s classically spikey green foliage is evergreen and clump forming, which even produces pretty orange-pink and cream bicolour blooms in summer. Blooms are free-flowering for a whole summer of colour, re-blooming over and over again. This brilliant variety provides all year-round interest in patio pots and rockeries, and although it is hardy, it does appreciate protection when frost arrives, ideally in temperatures no lower than 2C. Can also be grown in conservatories or greenhouses. Height and spread: 90cm (36″). Plant Aloe in containers of gritty, well-drained soil and position in full sun. For outdoor displays, plunge the container directly into the soil so that it can be easily removed in autumn for overwintering.
