The Arbutus Unedo Rubra is a robust, evergreen shrub with a bushy growth habit, known for its vibrant bloom in mid to late fall. Characterized by rough bark and dark green foliage, it thrives best in a sunny spot. In the fall, it produces clusters of rosy-pink, urn-shaped flowers, followed by strawberry-like fruits that develop from the previous year’s blooms. Grow Strawberry Trees in any non alkaline, fertile, moist but free draining soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting. Choose a position in full sun with shelter from cold winds. Although perfectly hardy once mature, Arbutus plants will appreciate a layer of fleece for winter protection when young.
