Rhododendron ‘Gold Topas’ blooms in a constellation of star-shaped blossoms that add colour and charm to shadowed, acidic borders. It is the Azalea group’s attractive, deciduous variety that has scented, golden flowers in late spring. Azaleas prefer acid soil but will survive in even the most challenging north-facing locations. The foliage transforms into a tapestry of crimson and copper tones in the autumn, creating a stunning sight. Height and spread: 120 cm (48″). An elegant, deciduous variety from the Azalea group, with fragrant, golden flowers in late spring. Rhododendron ‘Gold Topas’ produces a constellation of star-shaped blooms that will bring plenty of colour and interest to shaded, acid borders. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
