Hostas are well-known for their striking large, rounded leaves that form dense, colourful clumps of foliage. As they grow, they gradually spread to create an effective, weed-suppressing ground cover. These hardy perennials thrive in lightly shaded spots in the garden, whether in borders or patio containers. Their bold, corrugated blue-green leaves are beautifully framed by wide golden margins, offering excellent resistance to sun scorch. Height: 75cm (29″) | Spread: 120cm (48″). Grow Hosta plants in sun or dappled shade, on rich, moist, well-drained soil. Plants can grow well in a sunny border, but will need to be kept reliably moist. Plants may perform better on slightly acid soils. Before planting, work some fresh compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Alternatively plant Hostas in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
