Clusters of pale pink, almost white flowers in late spring will cheer up any hedgerow that the Crab Apple is part of. The blooms are attractive to pollinating insects and will, of course later develop into the colourful crab apples that can be coloured shades of yellow, green and even red. Ideal for a colourful hedging scheme or screening. Height: 12m (39′). Spread: 8m (26′). Planting distance: 30cm (12″). (4 plants per metre for a single line fence).
Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible.
Plant crab apple in a sheltered, sunny position in any fertile, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole Plant the bare roots at their original soil level and firm them into the ground.
