‘Desert Surprise’ is a unique Kalanchoe that adds vibrancy, texture and charm to any corner of the home. It bears succulent-like foliage, that features deep maroon and silver-green scalloped leaflets, that form in a tidy rosette. In October it will produce a lengthy, slender central stem that is covered in miniature purple blooms, they add quirkiness and interest to this perennial and enjoy partial shade to flourish. Great for adding to a windowsill, greenhouse or conservatory, your Kalanchoe will develop in height to around 30cm, along with a spread of 10cm. In a league of its own amongst Kalanchoe, Kalanchoe humilis ‘Desert Surprise’ is a striking and unusual succulent whose scalloped grey-green leaves are beautifully banded with rich purple-maroon. Kalanchoe is an adaptable plant, growing happily in average room temperatures of 18C (65F) – 24C (75F). A bright sunny windowsill is ideal, although scorching midday summer sun should be avoided. Treat Kalanchoe humilis ‘Desert Surprise’ like a cactus, keeping it on the dry side with only infrequent watering, and completely dry in winter. Foliage colour is best when in direct sun.
