Super cost-effective Acer palmatum ‘Butterfly’Japanese Maple

This ornamental Japanese Maple is much loved for its attractive foliage and ease of maintenance. It generates stunning, variegated leaflets in shades of green, cream and pink, they form spiky edges and sit amongst a vertical, dense habit. Perfect for growing as a small shrub or tree, ‘Butterfly’ will easily make a showy stand-alone plant, along with working beautifully in woodland gardens and patio areas. It enjoys dappled shade to develop and will grow in height to 3m, along with a spread of 1.5m. Pot up acer plants and grow them on in cool frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. When plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them in borders outdoors. Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves. Alternatively grow acers in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
