Rhododendron ‘Royal Command’ is an excellent specimen shrub for acid margins or forest edges since it provides a lot of seasonal interest. It is truly a valuable, robust shrub for those difficult north-facing garden spots. From May to June, thick clusters of glowing orange-red funnel-shaped blooms bloom. This striking deciduous shrub belongs to the Azalea family, which is known for its spectacular blooms and vibrant fall foliage. Height and spread: 150 cm (60″). Glowing, orange-red, funnel shaped flowers are borne in dense clusters from May. This showy deciduous shrub is from the Azalea group, popular for their flamboyant blooms and colourful autumn foliage. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
