Streptocarpus Pretty Turtle also has the resilience of its reptilian namesake. Originating from rocky landscapes in Africa and Madagascar, it’s a tough plant which is easy to care for.
This cute streptocarpus has leaves with a curious turtle shell patterning, creating a tessellated design composed of silvery veining against a deep green background. This handsome foliage plant has fleshy, rounded leaves arranged in neat rosettes making this a dainty little specimen for small spaces such as a narrow shelf.
Height and spread: 25cm (10”).
March to September
Place your Streptocarpus in a bright spot but not in prolonged direct sunlight – an east or west-facing windowsill is perfect. Water regularly as the compost begins to dry out but avoid letting the plant sit in water. Feed fortnightly with a proprietary houseplant feed. As the plant grows, repot as necessary in spring into a slightly larger pot.
October to February
Move to a south facing windowsill if possible. Only water when the compost dries out and don’t feed. Remove any dead leaves and debris to minimise the chance of pests and diseases.
