Gage (Prunus) Old Green Gage
The Old Greengage may have plain green plums but they are exceptionally sweet and juicy and perfect when eaten straight from the tree. A much-favoured variety with an old fashioned sweet taste, perfect for homemade jam making. Originally brought to the UK from France over three hundred years ago.
A hardy partially self-fertile deciduous tree best grown with another variety nearby to act as a pollinator. Prefers a sheltered sunny location.

- Plum rootstocks:
- VVA1 – Semi dwarf reaching a mature height of up to 2.5m (8′)
- St. Julien – Semi vigorous reaching a mature height of up to 4.5m (14′)
Plant plum trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.
