‘Apple Blossom’ is a stunning Clematis that blooms from March until June. It generates masses of baby pink flowers that each feature a lemon-coloured centre and sweet almond scent. They sit amongst mounds of deciduous stems, that are smothered in gleaming bronze glossy leaflets that later transform to a lustrous, emerald green. Perfect for growing in a shaded spot, this Clematis will have so much fun sprawling along walls, fences and obelisks, whilst sitting comfortably also in cottage, scented and low maintenance gardening schemes. This evergreen climber will develop quickly and needs a lot of space for growth, it works well for masking unsightly corners of the garden and develops to a great height of 5m, with a spread of 3m. . Pot up clematis plants and grow them on until large enough to plant in their final positions. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3″) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train Clematis armandii plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a large pergola.
