‘Ruby Slippers’ is an elegant Hydrangea, that is ready to flower from May until August. Each bloom a sparkling white to begin with, they will later transform to a raspberry pink and then a deep red! Smothering a bushy growing habit of fresh green foliage, this also will later change to a gorgeous shade of deep red as Autumn approaches. Happy to progress in semi shade, be sure to incorporate into woodland, cottage and wildlife gardening schemes and enjoy watching it flourish to a maximum height of 1.2m, along with a spread of 1.5m. Oak-leaved hydrangeas have plenty to offer: handsome foliage that delivers good autumn column and bold, long-lasting summer flowers. With Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Ruby Slippers’ the blooms are particularly large and change colour as they age. Hydrangea quercifolia prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea quercifolia in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
