This eye-catching Clematis bears velvety, 10cm blooms in a luxurious purple from July until October. They feature lemon-coloured anthers and contrast beautifully against its fresh green foliage. Much loved for its deciduous growing habit, this Old man’s beard is just what you need to add some elegance and a pop of colour to your garden this season! Ideal for sprawling along walls and fences, trailing up obelisks and adding to pretty patio areas, ‘Warszawska Nike’ makes a bold statement wherever placed and even fits in well with traditional cottage gardening schemes. Be sure to place it in a sunny spot and watch it thrive to 3m in height and spread to around 1m. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3″) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
