‘Horizon Monarch’ is a stunning Rhododendron, that blooms from May until July. It produces bundles of large flower clusters, that are a creamy custard featuring raspberry streaks in colour. They make a superb contrast against its glossy green foliage and form in a bushy, spherical shape. Perfect for planting in cottage, low maintenance and woodland gardening schemes, be sure to grow in semi shade where it can progress to a height and spread of 1.8m. The red buds of Rhododendron ‘Horizon Monarch’ open into large, funnel-shaped blooms of a creamy-yellow shade flushed and backed with streaks of pinkish-red. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
